At least one Chinese artist remains on the fast track. This video documents the installation of Cai Guo-Qiang’s larger-than-life piece Inopportune: Phase One (2004) at the Guggenheim Bilbao. I saw Guo-Qiang’s retrospective at the Guggenheim’s NYC flagship, and while I love that museum precisely because the architecture tends to work against the art displayed there, I would very much like to see it in a more open space like this one.
