Oh, Carlos.

Art.
Life.
Whatever.

You are not in the minority.  The tragedy of Dorothy Parker’s career is that the recognition for her poems, plays and short stories was lost in the cultural ether, but her reputation as a formidable wit remained.  As a result, one of the greatest writers in American history is mostly famous for the vitriolic remarks she made while having lunch.

stillicide:

And just so that you don’t think I’m smarter or more cultured than I really am, I have never actually read a Dorothy Parker…anything. Well, I once read a short story. That’s it.

I don’t know how I could know about ten or more Dorothy Parker quotes without actually reading any of her material or material written about her. Cultural osmosis, I guess?

In any case, Dorothy Parker was one hilarious bitch and if I were around in the 1930s I would have married her and made her my beard, too.
