Kader Attia, Ghost (2007).
I want to like this piece, the use of aluminum is amazing, but there’s something really weird to me about depicting Muslim women as empty shells, particularly a man depicting Muslim women as empty shells. (via sexartandpolitics)
I should have added some context (I’ve gotten so lazy with this blog lately, as evidenced by my rapidly dwindling list of followers—sorry guys!): Given the artist’s Algerian nationality, the work probably references the fate of female schoolteachers and doctors who were murdered by Islamists during the Algerian Civil War in the ’90s.
