John Currin, Thanksgiving (2003).
Mannerism in the 21st Century.  The moment I saw this painting, I immediately flashed back to my freshmen Renaissance survey and how I loudly (and absentmindedly) blurted out “what the fuck is with that pillar?” when my professor flashed the slide of Parmigianino’s Madonna with the Long Neck (1534-40).
His response?  “Exactly!”
