Björk — Pagan Poetry

For me, Nick Knight proved his versatility as an image maker, breaking out of the fashion mold to create this video. The pretense that cocoons his video work at SHOWstudio is shed like a chrysalis here, with the rawness of the shots, natural light and no makeup. If you look closely, you’ll realize that the smokey, undulating forms are actually just a milky screen coating the otherwise uninhibited footage of Björk and Matthew Barney making love.
At about 1:52 you can clearly see him come, and his orgasm transforms into a three dimentional mobile of Paul Klee-esq tinker toys, then finally into the outline of Björk. My favorite shot. Har-har.
