Aurel Schmidt, Deep Throat (2008).
My favorite young, new artist, Aurel Schmidt, has made a sculpture! Reminiscent of her Two Faces series, the work is based around a rectangular plain of plywood, through which the eyes, nose and mouth have been scorched. From its eyes, spew a strung-together tangled mess of the artist’s favorite subject matter: cigarette butts, banana peels, used tampons and condoms (as well as their wrappers), beer cans, panties, discarded cigarette packs, and doughnuts, yum!
